A Sacramento teacher has been arrested after she allegedly hid a missing 15-year-old boy for nearly two years.

Holga Castillo Olivares, 61, an employee of the Sacramento Unified School District, was arrested Thursday in connection with a Rancho Cordova teenager who was reported missing on June 9, 2020, the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office said in a Facebook post. . Olivarez is a second-grade teacher at the Alice Birney Waldorf-inspired K-8 school.

Olivares was arrested on suspicion of holding a minor with intent to hide from his parents and aiding and abetting the delinquency of a minor, authorities said. She is scheduled to appear in Sacramento County Superior Court on Monday.

The school did not immediately respond to a request for comment Monday.

Two years ago, police searched for the missing teenager, whose name The Times is not releasing because he is a minor, but were unable to find him, the release said. The teenager returned home on March 11, almost two years later.

Kat Smith, the boy’s guardian, told KCRA-TV in Sacramento that the teenager ran away from home after an argument with family members.

“He ran away,” she said. “He felt the grass was greener on the other side.”

The boy told the family he was staying at the home of his childhood girlfriend, whose mother is Olivares, KCRA reported.

Detectives asked anyone with additional information on this case to contact the Rancho Cordova Police Department at (916) 362-5115 or leave an anonymous tip at (916) 874-8477.
