Surveillance camera captures 10-year-old girl fleeing possible kidnapping attempt in Florida

Police in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, said a man is suspected of trying to kidnap a 10-year-old girl last week and released surveillance footage of the alleged incident. The footage shows the child running quickly along a residential street, eventually slowing down as soon as she was far from the street corner. Shortly after the girl exits the video frame, the man police believe to be the suspect runs around the corner, stops abruptly and continues walking down the street in the girl’s direction before turning around and walking in the opposite direction. The same man approached the young girl while she was walking to school, this time on foot. She immediately ran toward the school and away from the man.” Authorities believe the subject is between 30 and 40 years old, 5-foot-10 to six-foot tall and of medium build. He has brown hair and may have a gray mustache or a scar on the left side of his face, police said. The suspect may also be driving a black cargo van with sliding doors, police said. The vehicle may also have heavy rust spots underneath and damage to the tail light and doors. Fort Lauderdale police told CNN they do not believe the suspect had any prior involvement with the girl or her family. Broward County Crime Stoppers is offering a reward of up to $5,000 for information leading to the suspect’s arrest.
