Sacramento will be well represented in the 2022 MLB World Series. The Houston Astros defeated the New York Yankees in the American League Championship Series on Sunday. Astros manager Dusty Baker moved to the Sacramento area when he was a teenager. In 2010, Baker was inducted into the Sac-Joaquin Section Hall of Fame for being a standout athlete at Del Campo High School. This is his second World Series appearance with the Astros and third overall. Baker managed the San Francisco Giants from 1993 to 2002, where he led the team to the World Series in his final year of coaching. Baker still has ties to the Sacramento region. The Baker Family Wines is located in West Sacramento. Earlier in the day, the Philadelphia Phillies won the National League Championship Series against the San Diego Padres. One player leading the way for the Phillies was Rhys Hoskins, who was selected in the fifth round of the 2014 MLB Draft out of Sacramento State. The former Hornet hit two home runs off Padres pitcher Yu Darvish on Sunday. The World Series begins Friday, October 28, in Houston.
